We All "Want" Things

But we don't always get what we want, do we?
Yet another headline on what a semi-mythical vehicle might do to a Prius. I've been seeing these headlines since I got into this game, more than ten years ago. And it still has not happened. On its own terms, the Prius is superior to everything else on the market currently. Add in, this new vehicle is a "subcompact SUV", a tiny, sort of cartoon version of the most popular form factor in cars today but still, can it compete with the larger Prius storage and passenger abilities? It's a big question.

But, and this is a big butt, never before has there been a better opportunity to knock the Prius down.

That said, even if the this new Hyundai/Kia hybrid comes out of the box raging, it won't have the decade and a half of Prius experience, of millions of vehicles on the road, proving the concept.

"Kick butt"? Sure. Maybe. But replace the Prius? It's going to take more than a press release to do that.

One word of note. I've met and like Justin Hyde. I'm not posting this as a slap at him. He writes to fill a space just like I do. And I don't even know if he wrote the headline (lots of writers don't get the write their headlines though I suspect "Managing Editor" Hyde does). All that said, Justin is a good guy. Cheers.
